Insurance

Shop - shop and compare!  There's no better explanation for finding the right carrier than that statement.  Of course having an insurance company owner as a business partner helps a little.  I started my search with BoatUS.  They handled my 32' Wellcraft for three years and provided courteous and careful service.  I thought I would try not to say negative things on this site.  But - BoatUS - what are you telling me?  Their quote was for $2,500 and some change per year.  A generic search of the Internet for yacht insurance brokers turned up dozens of companies.  After calling three and having them tell me they couldn't cover an owner living in Georgia I turned to West Marine for assistance.  I spoke with Jennifer and she provided great customer service.  The quote was provided over the phone in just five minutes.  It was for $1,500 per year and so I had her issue a policy that day.  Thank you West Marine.

I'm currently carrying hull insurance for the East coast and Florida.  As we venture off to the Bahamas in a year or so I will need to add a rider at that time.  I'll keep you posted as rates change with coverage.
